Luca Zingaretti directs and performs Autodifesa di Caino, a theatrical reading of the last work written by Andrea Camilleri in the year of his passing — a powerful, profound text that recounts, in its own way, the first murder in the history of mankind. Cain stands before the audience as if it were the jury of a tribunal called to judge him: no longer merely the murderous brother, condemned to an image without redemption, but a complex, multifaceted figure, capable of cracking the version that has been handed down to us.

From this self-defence springs a monologue that interrogates profound themes such as guilt, justice, power, forgiveness and violence.

“Camilleri is gone,” writes Zingaretti, “and this is a painful, inconsolable loss. But I am happy to be, once again, an instrument of his talent.”

On an essential stage, David Giacomoni performs live the original music composed by Manù Bandettini.
