The Schumann house, 1853: Clara composes the Three Romances op. 22, while Robert, with Johannes Brahms and Albert Dietrich, writes the curious “collective” FAE Sonata. In both cases the dedicatee is Joseph Joachim, virtuoso violinist and another protagonist of that extraordinary web of personal and artistic relationships. Years later, in 1888, after a long gestation over three working summers on Lake Thun, Brahms completes the last of his sonatas for violin and piano.
