Ayekoo Drummers

Ayekoo Drummers were founded in 2007. For over a decade, they were members of the Ghana National Theatre youth orchestra (Indigenafrika). This group plays 25 instruments, mixing African beats and showing the uniqueness of African percussion. The seven Ayekoo Drummers have captivated the audience at music festivals across Europe and Africa, including Montreux Jazz, Verona Jazz, and the Asilah Festival. The group has held clinics and workshops across Europe. In recent years, they have also created ethnic music for the 150-member Mansa World production, which has toured the Bahamas, France, Algeria, and Switzerland. Since 2022, the annual exchange with the Haute École de Musique-HEMU in Lausanne, Switzerland, has continued to the experience and help spread their music. The Ayekoo Drummers recorded a CD in 2007 and composed several soundtracks for documentaries. Ghana’s Ayekoo Drummers promise a dynamic African music experience. They wear traditional garments and play a wide range of African instruments, including 1.4-metre wooden “Fontomfroms”, a medium-tone “Kpanlogo” drum, the eloquent “Djembe”, the xylophone, Atenteben (a bamboo flute), and the “Kora”.
